LAMA OLE NYDAHL of Diamond Way Buddhism Meditation: The Science of Mind

Buddhist meditation is comparable to a laboratory which offers the best tools to examine one's mind in detail and to reach lasting joy. Join Lama Ole Nydahl of Diamond Way Buddhism to learn more about convergence of science and Buddhism.

/New Age PR News/ - NEW YORK, NY, May 10, 2006 -- 2,500 years ago Buddha taught that "form is emptiness, emptiness is form." Today we know that Buddhism resonates with concepts of quantum mechanics and general relativity, while on the inner level, neuroscientists and health professionals
increasingly recognize the emotional and health benefits of Buddhist meditation. Buddhism and science are converging, reaching the same exciting conclusion that meditation increases measurable levels of happiness while decreasing stress, depression and the risk of heart and immune system diseases.
"One may compare Buddhist meditation to a laboratory, which offers the best tools to examine one's mind in detail and to reach lasting joy", says Lama Ole Nydahl, one of the few Westerners fully qualified as a lama and meditation teacher.

Lama Ole will be back in New York City on the last stop of his US tour, as Diamond Way Buddhist Center NYC presents the lecture "Meditation: Science of Mind" at the Light House International, 111 E 59th Street (Between Park and Lexington Avenues) on May 24 2006, starting at 8PM.

About Lama Ole Nydahl and the Diamond Way Buddhism
After completing intensive meditation training in the Himalayas in 1972, Lama Ole of Denmark started teaching Buddhism at the request of H.H. 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Entering his 35th year of teaching, Lama continues to inspire people worldwide, from Scandinavia to South America, from Israel and Siberia to New York City. Today, there are 501 Diamond Way Buddhist Centers in the world with 132 traveling teachers and estimated 30,000 pracitioners.

Recently, Lama Ole was a subject of cutting edge scientific researches at Universities of Zurich (Switzerland) and a sleeping laboratory in Chicago, on the ways meditation influences brain activity. In the course of the experiments, Lama Ole willfully generated the dramatic curves of epilepsy, while staying completely conscious, in a state of total awareness. He is capable of achieving extremely restful mode, a characteristic of a deep sleep, in only 4 seconds (on average a person needs about ninety minutes to reach this stage).

Lama Ole teaches Buddhism in a direct and often humorous way, making the teachings accessible to dynamic and critical -thinking Westerners who are also busy with their modern lives. He is the author of 7 books: Entering the Diamond Way (1985), Ngondro (1990), Mahamudra (1990), Riding the Tiger (1992), The Nature of Mind (1993), The Way Things Are (1996), The Great Seal (2004) and The Buddha and Love (2005)
